The White Sox have acquired 20-year old righty swinging outfielder Carl Thomore from the Colorado Rockies for cash considerations.  Thomore has not played so far this year.  He played in 15 games in A-ball last year for the Rockies and he was 10 for 48 (.208 avg, .700 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 1 homer and 6 RBIs.  He has now played in 58 games in his first two years in the minors and he is 40 for 204 (.196 avg, .617 OPS) with 36 runs scored, 4 homers, 31 RBIs and 4 stolen bases.  Thomore has got a lot of work to do before he’s considered a legit major league prospect.

The Chicago White Sox have missed A.J. Pierzynski so far in 2013.  He signed with the Rangers over the winter.  27-year old righty swinging Tyler Flowers has replaced Pierzynski in the starting lineup behind the plate.  He has played in 50 games for the White Sox so far this year and he is 35 of 158 (.222 avg, .663 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 6 homers and 16 RBIs.  30-year old switch-hitting Hector Gimenez has been Flowers’ caddy so far in 2013.  He has played in 19 games for the Pale Hose so far this year and he is 11 for 51 (.216 avg, .699 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 10 RBIs.  The White Sox really miss Pierzynski’s bat and leadership.

Jeff Keppinger is having a rough time for the Chicago White Sox in 2013

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, In Need of a Slumpbuster by joelapinski on Monday 10 June 2013 at 8:45 am

33-year old righty swinging 3B Jeff Keppinger signed a 3-year, $12 million dollar deal last winter with the White Sox.  He played in 115 games for the Rays last year and he was 125 of 385 (.325 avg, .806 OPS) with 46 runs scored, 9 homers, 40 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  So the White Sox gave Keppinger a nice contract to be their starting 3B.  In return, Keppinger has rewarded the White Sox by playing in 50 games so far this year in which he is 46 of 201 (.229 avg, .498 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 1 homer and 17 RBIs.  The White Sox need Keppinger to pick up the pace or they need to start looking for a new starting 3B.

The Chicago White Sox place Jake Peavy on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Wednesday 5 June 2013 at 4:33 pm

The White Sox have placed 32-year old righty starting pitcher Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list due to a non-displaced fracture to his left rib cage…..which will cause him to miss the next 4-6 weeks.  Peavy has pitched in 11 games (all starts) for the White Sox so far this year and he is 6-4 with a 4.30 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.  This is a bad break for the White Sox as Peavy has pitched well for the most part this year.  25-year old lefty Hector Santiago will replace Peavy in the starting rotation.  He has pitched in 15 games (5 starts) for the White Sox so far this year and he is 1-4 with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.  Santiago has pitched well in his first five starts for the Pale Hose this year, as he is 1-2 with a 2.96 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP in those games.

The White Sox have designated 29-year old righty swinging 2B/SS Tyler Greene.  Greene played in 22 games for the White Sox this year and he was 12 for 54 (.222 avg, .615 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs.  He was very undisciplined at the plate for the Pale Hose this year as he whiffed 19 times and had only 3 walks this year.  Greene has played in 288 games in his first five years in the majors and he is 151 of 675 (.224 avg, .645 OPS) with 86 runs scored, 17 homers, 61 RBIs and 28 stolen bases.  This isn’t going to be much of a loss for the White Sox moving forward.

UPDATE:  (6/5/2013) - Tyler Greene has been outrighted to AAA-ball by the Pale Hose.
