The White Sox have placed 29-year old righty starting pitcher Gavin Floyd on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right elbow. Floyd has pitched in 24 games (all starts) for the Pale Hose so far this year and he is 9-9 with a 4.55 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Contrary to Floyd’s career splits, he has not pitched well late in the year in 2012. He has started 5 games for the White Sox in August and he was 1-0 with a 5.96 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP. Even though Floyd has been pitching poorly lately, the White Sox are going to miss him while he’s out of action.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, In Need of a Slumpbuster by chinmusic on Tuesday 28 August 2012 at 9:08 am

25-year old righty swinging 2B Gordon Beckham showed so much potential in 2009, when he finished 5th in the voting for the Rookie of the Year Award, that the White Sox thought they found a building block for the future. But, he has been going downhill since his rookie season. Beckham has played in 120 games for the Pale Hose so far this year and he is 99 for 432 (.229 avg, .641 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 12 homers, 45 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He has been really awful since July 1st. He has played in 45 games since July 1st, and he is only 31 of 153 (.203 avg) with 15 runs scored, 3 homers and 11 RBIs. The White Sox could be looking for a new 2B for 2013 if Beckham doesn’t pick up the pace with the bat soon.

Lopez has now played in 1,021 games in his first 9 years in the majors and he is 1,000 of 3,818 (.262 avg, .689 OPS) with 419 runs scored, 92 homers, 480 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. This was a good move for the Pale Hose as Lopez can play any position on the infield defensively except shortstop, and he has some pop in his bat.

Addison Reed is looking solid this year for the Chicago White Sox

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Sunday 12 August 2012 at 1:44 pm

23-year old righty rookie reliever Addison Reed was not the first or even second choice to close for the Pale Hose coming out of spring training. But, he pitched well and earned a shot and he hasn’t looked back since. Reed has pitched in 44 games (0 starts) for the White Sox so far this year and he is 2-1 with 20 saves, a 3.83 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He has only given up 36 hits and 14 walks while whiffing 39 batters in only 40 innings this year, which is pretty impressive. The White Sox traded for Brett Myers, who was the closer for the Astros earlier this year, but he has been no threat to Reed and he won’t be…..as long as Reed keeps pitching well.
