Andruw Jones is in line to lose a lot of P.T. for the Chicago White Sox

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, In Need of a Slumpbuster by chinmusic on Monday 30 August 2010 at 5:05 pm

With Manny Ramirez on board with the White Sox, it appears as if 33-year old righty swinging OF/DH Andruw Jones will see a huge drop in playing time. Jones has played in 89 games for the White Sox this year and he is 54 of 251 (.215 avg, .795 OPS) with 39 runs scored, 18 homers, 42 RBIs and 9 stolen bases. Jones has outstanding power still but he just doesn’t make enough solid contact to be a asset in the starting lineup for the Pale Hose.

The Chicago White Sox claim Manny Ramirez off waivers

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Monday 30 August 2010 at 2:51 pm

The White Sox have claimed 38-year old righty swinging LF/DH Manny Ramirez off waivers. The White Sox didn’t have to give up anything for Ramirez but they will pay him the remainder of the $3.8 million bucks that he’s owed for the 2010 season. Ramirez will be the new full time DH for the White Sox. He played in 66 games this year for the Dodgers and he was 61 of 196 (.311 avg, .915 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 8 homers and 40 RBIs. Ramirez has now played in 2,273 games in his major league career and he is 2,555 of 8,158 (.313 avg, 1.000 OPS) with 1,538 runs scored, 554 homers, 1,828 RBIs and 38 stolen bases. This was a outstanding move for the White Sox as Manny ususally plays better when the games mean something down the stretch and in the playoffs.

The Chicago White Sox place Eric Threets on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Sunday 29 August 2010 at 4:52 pm

The White Sox have placed 28-year old lefty reliever Eric Threets on the 15-day disabled list with a torn ligament in his left elbow which will require Tommy John Surgery to correct. Threets pitched in 11 games (0 starts) for the White Sox this year and he was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP. The White Sox have recalled 27-year old righty Carlos Torres to replace Threets in the pen. Torres has pitched in 2 games (1 start) for the Pale Hose earlier this year and he was 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA and a 2.46 WHIP.

The Chicago White Sox place Matt Thornton on the D.L.

The White Sox have placed 33-year old lefty reliever Matt Thornton on the 15-day disabled list due to a sore forearm. Thornton has pitched in 50 games (0 starts) for the Pale Hose and he was 3-4 with 5 saves, a 2.66 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. He has whiffed 64 batters while only allowing 37 hits in 47 1/3 innings this season for the White Sox. The White Sox have activated 28-year old lefty reliever Eric Threets off the D.L. to replace Thornton in the pen. Threets has pitched in 9 games (0 starts) for the White Sox this year and he is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. Threets is nowhere near Thornton’s class as a reliever but the White Sox hope he can handle the lefty swingers until Thornton comes back.

The Chicago White Sox place J.J. Putz on the D.L.

The White Sox have placed 33-year old righty reliever J.J. Putz on the 15-day disabled list with a sore knee. Putz has pitched in 50 games (0 starts) for the Pale Hose this year and he is 6-5 with 3 saves, a 2.68 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He has only given up 34 hits in 47 innings this season while whiffing 55 batters as his stuff has been very nasty this year. The White Sox have recalled 25-year old righty Lucas Harrell to replace him in the bullpen. Harrell started 1 game earlier this year for the White Sox and he was 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Look for Bobby Jenks and Sergio Santos to be the guys pitching at the end of the game until Putz returns to action.

Mark Buehrle is back on track for the Chicago White Sox

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Wednesday 25 August 2010 at 8:59 am

31-year old lefty starting pitcher Mark Buehrle has been in a groove the last two months for the Pale Hose. He has started 9 games in July & August in which he is 6-2 with a 2.81 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. Overall, Buehrle has started 25 games this season for the White Sox and he is 12-9 with a 3.87 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. He has given up 178 hits in 160 1/3 innings and he has only whiffed 68 batters so he’s not missing many bats. But, he has only given up 13 homers and he has only walked 35 batters this season so he’s being aggressive in the strike zone while keeping the ball in the park. This is Buehrle’s 10th season in a row which double digit wins as he is one of the most dependable pitchers in baseball.

Carlos Quentin is really putting up good power numbers for the Chicago White Sox

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 17 August 2010 at 9:35 pm

27-year old righty swinging RF/DH Carlos Quentin is really putting up quite a power display this year for the Pale Hose. He has played in 101 games for the White Sox this year and he is 81 of 347 (.233 avg, .828 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 24 homers and 77 RBIs. The amazing thing about Quentin is that he has only whiffed 62 times this season which isn’t much for a power hitter. I think Quentin’s average will have to go up the rest of the way as long as he keeps his whiffs down as he hits the ball really hard. The White Sox need to make sure they keep giving him some at bats at DH in a attempt to keep him healthy the rest of the way.

The Chicago White Sox demote Dayan Viciedo to AAA

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Friday 13 August 2010 at 4:46 pm

The White Sox have demoted 21-year old righty swinging 3B Dayan Viciedo to AAA. Viciedo has played in 27 games for the White Sox this year and he was 22 of 82 (.268 avg, .720 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 3 homers, 7 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Viciedo did pretty well for a player who has still not drawn a walk in the majors. The Pale Hose have activated Matk Teahan from the D.L. to replace Viciedo on the roster. Teahan has played in 45 games this season for the White Sox and he is 35 of 137 (.255 avg, .727 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 3 homers, 14 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Teahan will be a utility type player now that Omar Vizquel has taken over at 3B for the White Sox.

Edwin Jackson is off to a fast start for the Chicago White Sox

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 10 August 2010 at 9:08 am

26-year old righty starting pitcher Edwin Jackson is off to a very fast start for the White Sox. In his first two starts, Jackson is 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. The White Sox really have worked with Jackson and you can tell it by watching him. His fastball was moving so much against the Orioles last night that I’m surprised that they got any hits off of him. The White Sox have also stressed for Jackson to throw strikes and let the defense help him. He has only walked 2 batters while whiffing 13 in 13 innings. If the White Sox can get Jackson to keep pitching like this it won’t matter what Daniel Hudson does in Arizona this will be a great trade for the Pale Hose.

Gavin Floyd has been incredible as of late for the Chicago White Sox

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Thursday 5 August 2010 at 12:21 pm

Gavin Floyd’s overall numbers this season are not eye popping as he has started 22 games for the White Sox this year and he is 7-8 with a 3.54 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. But in his last 10 starts, Floyd has been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Floyd has a 5-2 record with a 1.02 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP in his last 10 starts! He has only given up 55 hits and has walked 15 batters in his last 70 1/3 innings for the Pale Hose. It’s no mystery as to how the White Sox got hot as they did at the same time Floyd did. He’s known as a second half pitcher so I expect him to keep up the good work and for the White Sox to ride the wave.
