He allowed 7 hits and walked 7 batters in only 4 1/3 innings this season for the White Sox. The Pale Hose have recalled 25-year old righty Jack Egbert to replace MacDougal in the bullpen. He has pitched in 5 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball so far this season and he is 1-0 with 1 save, a 6.43 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP. In his debut with the White Sox this season Egbert worked 1 inning and he allowed 1 hit (a homer) and walked 1 batter allowing 2 earned runs.

UPDATE: MacDougal has been released by the White Sox making him a free agent.

The Chicago White Sox acquire Andy Phillips from the Pirates

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Monday 20 April 2009 at 6:14 am

The White Sox have acquired 32-year old righty swinging 1B Andy Phillips from the Pirates for 23-year old righty reliever Michael Dubee. Phillips will provide organizational depth at AAA and get a call to Chicago if they suffer some injuries. Phillips has played in 9 games in AAA-ball so far this season and he is 13 for 36 (.361 avg, .859 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 1 homer and 2 RBIs. Phillips has played in 259 games in his major league career and he is 139 for 557 (.250 avg, .678 OPS) with 77 runs scored, 14 homers, 70 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Dubee has pitched in 3 games (0 starts) in A-ball and he is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. Dubee isn’t much of a prospect so this was likely a good trade for the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox sign Scott Podsednik

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Thursday 16 April 2009 at 6:38 pm

The White Sox have signed 33-year old lefty swinging outfielder Scott Podsednik to a minor league deal. He will likely go to AAA to learn how to play CF and if he can handle it he could wind up being the starter there for the White Sox. Podsednik played in 93 games for the Rockies last year and he was 41 for 162 (.253 avg, .655 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 1 homer, 15 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. He played in 330 games in his three years with the White Sox and he was 336 for 1,245 (.270 avg) with 196 runs scored, 5 homers, 81 RBIs and 111 stolen bases. This was a good signing for the White Sox as Podsednik could help them out in 2009.

The Chicago White Sox place Dewayne Wise on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Thursday 16 April 2009 at 6:31 pm

The White Sox have placed starting CF Dewayne Wise on the 15-day disabled list with a separated shoulder. He will miss at least 6 weeks. Wise has played in 7 games for the White Sox so far this season and he is 5 for 21 (.238 avg, .476 OPS) without any runs scored or RBIs. Righty swinging Brian Anderson will likely take over as the starting CF while Wise is out. Anderson has played in 5 games for the White Sox this season and he is 1 for 8 (.125 avg, .489 OPS) with 2 stolen bases. The White Sox have called lefty swinging Jerry Owens back up but he has been in Ozzie Guillen’s Dog House since last season. He is 0 for 1 (.000 avg) for the Pale Hose this season. He also has played in 2 AAA games this season in which he was 1 for 7 (.143 avg, .393 OPS) with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs. Owens does have the speed Guillen likes so it will be interesting to see how CF is handled while Wise is out.

The Chicago White Sox sign Jimmy Gobble

The White Sox have signed 27-year old lefty reliever Jimmy Gobble to a minor league deal. Gobble pitched in 39 games (0 starts) for the Royals last season and he was 0-2 with 1 save, a 8.81 ERA and a 1.96 WHIP. He has now pitched in 235 games (43 starts) in his major league career and he is 22-23 with 4 saves, a 5.23 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. Gobble might be able to help the White Sox later this season.

Jermaine Dye keeps plugging along for the Chicago White Sox

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Positional Previews for Season by chinmusic on Saturday 4 April 2009 at 1:48 am

35-year old righty swinging Jermaine Dye has really found a home in Chicago. Dye played in 154 games for the White Sox last season and he was 172 for 590 (.292 avg, .885 OPS) with 96 runs scored, 34 homers and 96 RBIs. Dye only made 1 error in RF last season in 151 games but he showed pretty poor range. The White Sox won’t care about Dye’s defense as long as he continues to hit and there’s no reason to think he won’t in 2009.

30-year old righty swinging Michael Restovich could make the White Sox as a backup corner outfielder. He played in 15 games for the Nationals last season and was 4 for 28 (.143 avg, .351 OPS) with 1 RBI. Restovich also played in 97 games in AAA-ball last season in which he was 96 for 356 (.270 avg, .835 OPS) with 42 runs scored, 20 homers and 58 RBIs.

The Chicago White Sox will platoon in CF to start the 2009 season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Positional Previews for Season by chinmusic on Saturday 4 April 2009 at 1:44 am

The Chicago White Sox will platoon 31-year old lefty swinging DeWayne Wise and 27-year old righty swinging Brian Anderson in CF. Wise played in 57 games for the White Sox last year and he was 32 for 129 (.248 avg, .743 OPS) with 20 runs scored, 6 homers, 18 RBIs and 9 stolen bases. Wise didn’t make any errors in 23 games in CF for the White Sox last season while showing below average range.

Brian Anderson will start against lefty pitchers this season. Anderson played in 109 games for the White Sox last season and he was 42 for 181 (.232 avg, .708 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 8 homers, 26 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. He played in 94 games in CF last season for the White Sox and he didn’t make any errors while showing poor range.

28-year old lefty swinging Jerry Owens might get another chance at some point in 2009. Owens played in 12 games for the White Sox last season and he was 4 for 16 (.250 avg, .500 OPS) with 1 run scored, 1 RBI and 2 stolen bases. Hopefully Carlos Quentin doesn’t do anything dumb for the Chicago White Sox this season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Positional Previews for Season by chinmusic on Saturday 4 April 2009 at 1:37 am

26-year old righty swinging LF Carlos Quentin could have won the MVP Award last season if he didn’t injure himself after a strikeout. He played in 130 games for the White Sox last season and he was 138 for 480 (.288 avg, .965 OPS) with 96 runs scored, 36 homers, 100 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. The sky is the limit for him in 2009. Quentin played in 130 games in LF for the White Sox last season and he made 7 errors while showing below average range. The White Sox likely won’t be concerned much with Quentin’s mitt as long as he keeps raking in 2009.

26-year old lefty swinging Josh Kroeger will likely be Quentin’s backup in 2009. He played in 123 games in AAA-ball last year in which he was 132 fro 430 (.307 avg, .887 OPS) with 73 runs scored, 15 homers, 69 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.

DeWayne Wise will be starting more than half the time in CF this season for the White Sox but he can also handle LF on defense. Wise played in 24 games in LF last season for the White Sox and he made 2 errors there while showing above average range.
