The Cubs have designated 25-year old lefty reliever Jeff Beliveau for assignment. Beliveau pitched in 22 games (0 starts) for the Cubs last year in his first taste of the majors and he was 1-0 with a 4.58 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP. He also pitched in 37 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Cubs last year and he was 4-5 with a 3.89 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. The Cubs should try to deal Beliveau, as he might get claimed off waivers.

The Chicago Cubs have signed 36-year old righty reliever Chang-Yong Lim to a 2-year split contract (pays him more for pitching in the majors than the minors). He had Tommy John Surgery last July, so he might not be ready to pitch for the Cubs until 2014. Lim pitched in 9 games (0 starts) in Japan last year and he was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. In his five years pitching in Japan, Lim pitched in 238 games (0 starts) in which he was 11-13 with 128 saves, a 2.09 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. It will be interesting to see how Lim does in the majors, as he has been pretty darn good in Japan.
