36-year old righty reliever Shawn Camp is the only free agent the Cubs have heading into this winter. Camp pitched in 80 games (0 starts) for the Cubs last year and he was 3-6 with 2 saves, a 3.59 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. He has now pitched in 512 games (0 starts) in his first nine years in the majors and he is 28-32 with 12 saves, a 4.29 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. The Cubs might bring back Camp for 2013, if the price is right.

UPDATE: (11/19/2012) - The Cubs have re-signed Shawn Camp to a 1-year, $1.35 million dollar deal.

30-year old righty swinging outfielder Joe Mather has elected to leave the Cubs in free agency. Mather played in 103 games for the Cubs last year and he was 47 of 225 (.209 avg, .581 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 5 homers, 19 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. He has now played in 229 games in his first four years in the majors and he is 108 of 493 (.219 avg, .628 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 14 homers, 49 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. This isn’t much of a loss for the Cubs moving forward.
