Blake DeWitt elects to bolt from the Chicago Cubs
27-year old lefty swinging 2B/3B Blake DeWitt has elected to become a free agent instead of returning to the Cubs for 2013 and it’s hard to blame him. DeWitt played in 18 games for the Cubs in 2012 and he was 4 for 29 (.138 avg, .306 OPS) with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. He played in 192 games in his three years with the Cubs and he was 111 of 443 (.251 avg, .679 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 9 homers, 49 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. DeWitt has now played in 422 games in his first five years in the majors and he is 287 of 1,116 (.257 avg, .704 OPS) with 118 runs scored, 21 homers, 135 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. DeWitt should have little problem finding a new team to play for this winter.
He won’t be missed. But best of luck and success with your new team (whoever they may be).
I agree with you Farley. The Cubs aren’t going to miss DeWitt, but he is good enough to be a backup infielder for some team.
