The Chicago Cubs lose Brian Schlitter on waivers
The Chicago Cubs have lost 25-year old righty reliever Brian Schlitter on waivers to the Yankees. Schlitter pitched in 7 games (0 starts) for the Cubs last season and he was 0-1 with a 12.38 ERA and a 2.88 WHIP. He also pitched in 37 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Cubs last year in which he was 2-1 with 13 saves, a 3.15 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. No big loss here as Schlitter was putrid with the Cubs last season.
7 major league games for a young guy like that isn’t an indication of his current or future ability.
He needs more time. I think he was a good pitcher and it’s too bad we lost him.
You are right that it’s hard to judge a guy after 7 games. But, he looked overmatched badly. I doubt he will get his big chance with the Yankees either.
