The Chicago Cubs place Rich Harden on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Friday 29 May 2009 at 12:37 am

The Cubs have placed righty starting pitcher Rich Harden on the 15-day disabled list with a back strain. He has started 8 games for the Cubs this season and he is 4-2 with a 4.74 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Harden still has electric stuff as he has whiffed 53 batters in only 43 2/3 innings this season but staying healthy has always been a problem for him.

The Chicago Cubs place Carlos Zambrano on the D.L.

The Cubs have placed starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. Zambrano has started 6 games so far this season and he is 3-1 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. He’s also a really good hitter for a pitcher as he is 5 for 18 (.278 avg, .816 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer and 2 RBIs. The Cubs have called up 26-year old righty Randy Wells to replace Zambrano in the starting rotation. He started 5 games in AAA-ball so far this season and he was 3-0 with a 2.77 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. Wells has pitched in 4 games (0 starts) in his major league career to date and he is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.56 WHIP. The Cubs will miss Zambrano big time as he is one of the leaders of the pitching staff.
