Rich Harden has been outstanding so far for the Chicago Cubs

Rich Harden has been really good for the Cubs since coming over from the A’s in July. He has started 5 games for the Cubs this season and he is 1-1 with a 2.10 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. Harden should have a much better record than he does right now as he has only allowed 22 hits while whiffing 47 batters in only 30 innings. The bullpen and offense have kept Harden from the record he deserves but that might change soon if the Cubs play better around him. The Cubs probably have the best team in the National League so expect Harden to get his fair share of wins in the near future.

The Chicago Cubs acquire 22-year old Brian Schlitter from the Phillies

The Cubs found a taker for Scott Eyre in the Philadelphia Phillies. Schlitter is a righty reliever who was pitching very well at A-Clearwater for the Phillies. Schlitter has pitched in 34 games (0 starts) this season in A-ball and he is 4-3 with 6 saves, a 2.22 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. I’m a little surprised that the Cubs got such a good arm for Scott Eyre so kudos to the front office in making a shrewd move.

The Cubs have designated lefty reliever Scott Eyre for assignment. Eyre has pitched in 19 games (0 starts) this season for the Cubs and he is 2-0 with a 7.15 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. The Cubs have activated closer Kerry Wood from the D.L. to replace Eyre in the bullpen. Wood has pitched in 44 games (0 starts) for the Cubs this season and he is 4-2 with 24 saves, a 3.02 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP.
