Their has been talk of Ryan Dempster joining the starting rotation but the 30 year old righty has been a reliever for a while now. Plus, the Cubs rotation appears to be full in front of him. With the Cubs using some combination of Carlos Marmol, Kerry Wood and Bobby Howry for saves it’s quite possible that Dempster could go from being the Cubs closer to a mop up man early in games. Dempster pitched in 66 games (0 starts) last season for the Cubs and he was 2-7 with 28 saves, a 4.73 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. Dempster has now pitched in 387 games (162 starts) in his major league career and he is 59-75 with 87 saves, a 4.82 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP.
